Hyderabad: As Anubhav Sinha’s ‘Bheed’ makes waves in the country, actress and producer Dia Mirza opens up about why the project is tied to her faith, her role in the film The character resonates so deeply, and how much she looks forward to people in New Light.
Whether advocating for climate action or bringing her inimitable warmth and affection to film roles, Mirza consciously chooses work that is relevant to her goals. “Like much of Anubhav’s recent work, ‘Bheed’ is a thought-provoking film with a powerful, humane and moving script that focuses not only on stark social inequality but on individual and collective strength,” she said.
“The film was set during the Covid-19 lockdown, which we still remember so vividly, after ‘Thappad’, it was a pleasure to work with Anubhav again and play a character who completely surprised people,” she added.
Explaining why this role is different from any other she’s played before, Dia said: “My character would be considered unusual because of the choices she made because of circumstances. One thing I love about ‘Bheed’ is that Its narrative is driven by the nuances of its characters, and you see all the shades of human behavior that emerge during a crisis.”
The film is Dia’s fourth collaboration with Anubhav Sinha, and she said, “It has been an absolute honor to be a part of his compelling and impactful story of addressing pressing social issues.”
Dia, who enjoyed filming the film in a village on the outskirts of Lucknow, is an avid bird watcher and was delighted to spot over 25 species of birds. She recalled: “During my down time, I usually take a walk in the woods, visit the swamp and photograph these beautiful birds! This experience made me realize again that there is great power in simplicity, if we only care about nature.” With each other, life flows so beautifully and easily.”
“Bheed,” which opens on March 24, also stars Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Ashutosh Rana and Pankaj Kapur.
