Veteran Indian discus thrower Seema Punia wins silver at Kusanov Memorial Athletics Games in Almaty

New Delhi: India’s discus throw veteran Seema Punia won silver at the Kusanov Memorial Athletics Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Saturday.
The 2014 Asian Games champion, 39-year-old Sima threw the Frisbee to 57.35m and won the second place. This is her second game of the season.
Subenrat Insaeng of Thailand won the gold medal with a throw of 59.67m. Local athlete Karina Vasilyeva won the bronze medal in the six-man event with a time of 47.70m.
Seema’s time was 57m above the Asian Games eligibility criteria set by the Athletic Federation of India (AFI).
The AFI has stipulated that participation in the National Interstate Championships in Bhubaneshwar from June 15-19 is mandatory for Asian Games team selection. Seema won the gold there with a throw of 56.50m.
Seema’s personal best is 64.84m, which she achieved back in 2004.
