Sangaredy: The collaboration between the Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) began as a DRDO research group in 2020 and has since transformed into a Center of Excellence, becoming the DRDO Industry-Academic Center of Excellence.
The center was inaugurated on Sunday at the Technology Research Park at the IIT-H campus by DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat, Minister and Chairman of Defense Research and Development, in the presence of Dr BHVS Narayana Murthy, Director General (Missiles and Strategic Systems), Prof BS Murty, Director of IIT-H and Dr G Ramaguru, Director, DIA-CoE.
IIT-H’s DIA-CoE will carry out seven vertical technology projects. Prof Murty called the center an important step towards realizing Atmanirbhar Bharat in the defense sector.
“I am looking forward to IIT-H faculty working with industry to address DRDO issues and make India a global leader in each of the verticals assigned to the CoE,” he said.
Dr. Samir V Kamat said that the DRDO team together with the IIT-H team will work together to identify target projects in each area and complete them within 3 to 5 years. Kamat also mentioned that DIA CoE IIT-H is the largest center among all 15 DIA-CoEs in the country.
