New Delhi: Elon Musk revealed Tuesday that he has 24,700 subscribers who each pay him at least $4 a month.
Angel investor Alex Cohen did the math and tweeted that with each subscriber paying him $4 a month, the Twitter CEO’s annual “passive income” is about $1.2 million.
“Financial independence & early retirement really is that easy,” Cohen tweeted.
That means Musk, who has 136.5 million followers, earns at least $98,800 a month through subscribers.
The Twitter CEO shared a screenshot where he revealed that he has 24.7K subscribers.
“Content creators may wish to enable subscriptions on this platform. Just click on Monetize in Settings,” he wrote.
Earlier this month, Twitter said it would allow its users to charge for access to their content, such as long text or video.
According to the company, creators will be allowed to set the price of their subscription offerings by choosing one of three price points Twitter offers — $2.99, $4.99 or $9.99.
Musk said Twitter will not withhold any money from users for the next 12 months, and users will earn the money from their monetized content.
“Whatever money we receive, you receive, so subscription fees are 70% on iOS and Android (they charge 30%) and 92% on the web (could be better depending on payment processing device),” he added.
However, after the 12 months are complete, the iOS and Android fee will drop to 15%, and the company will add a smaller amount to this based on volume.
The tech billionaire also mentioned that the company will also help promote the works of creators on the platform.
