Hyderabad: On Saturday, a special team comprising officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Medchal-Ranga Reddy District Revenue Department cleared the encroachment on about an acre of land in Nizampet.
Survey No. 332 in Nizampet is government land, and in 2003 a crushed stone unit was awarded a 15-year mining lease. Later, the government canceled mining leases and gravel units in residential areas due to strict environmental laws.
However, the crushers encroached on about an acre of land and carried out unauthorized construction on the land in Nizampet. Although the Telangana High Court asked the squatter to inform the court how long it would take him to relocate the shack built on government land, the court order was ignored and the squatting continued.
The land is part of the 32 acres allotted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists MAC Housing Society.
