MA&UD plans to construct nearly 14 bridges across two rivers to reflect the local culture and heritage of the area.
Hyderabad: Inspired by the Rhine, one of the major rivers that flow through several countries in Europe, Telangana’s Municipal and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department is currently planning to build nearly 14 bridges over the Musi and Esa rivers.
The new bridges will fundamentally reflect the historic significance of the sites where they will be built along the two rivers. The Telangana state government will cost Rs 5.45 billion to build the project, which will combine the modernity of bridges over the Rhine and bridges over the river that flows through Paris, officials said.
MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao decided to adopt a design that reflects the local culture and heritage of the bridge’s location. After studying bridges in Europe and meeting French experts, MA&UD officials involved in this prestigious project presented a report to KT Rama Rao.
“The minister told us to only incorporate modern and technological elements of European bridges and not copy their designs and themes because European bridges will only reflect local flavors and this has nothing to do with Hyderabad, Musi River and its heritage,” the official said.
Elaborating on the themes, the official said the bridge to be built in Musalam Bagh will amplify the historical significance of the place. Likewise, pedestrian bridges at Afzalgunj and Chaderghat will demonstrate the importance of nearby historical places.
Of the 15 structures across the Musi and Essa rivers, three bridges will be constructed by Hyderabad Roads Development Ltd at a cost of Rs 1.16 crore, one by Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority at a cost of Rs 40 crore and four by bridge Construction of HMDA will cost Rs 1.68 billion to construct Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and six bridges and link roads to Manchirevula Bridge.
