New Delhi: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has reportedly admitted to destroying two mobile phones that were being pursued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi Excise Tax policy scam.
On July 22, 2022, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the CBI to open a case against GST scam. Since that day, Sisodia has been using the new phone, the source said.
While investigating the matter, the CBI learned that Sisodia had been using three different mobile phones between January 1, 2020, and August 19, 2022.
On August 19, 2022, the investigative agency conducted a search operation and confiscated a mobile phone from Sisodia.
“We later found out that the mobile phone seized from Sisodia had been in his use since July 22, 2022. This is the date the MHA directed us to open a case on the GST issue,” said a source.
According to reports, during the interrogation, Sisodia confessed to the investigation agency that he destroyed two mobile phones. “Before this, I was using two destroyed phones,” a source quoted Sisodia as saying.
A notice under Section 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC) regarding the two phones was also served on Sisodia and in response he admitted the same, the source said.
“This deliberate disposal of mobile phones containing evidence of crimes related to the policy is another criminal circumstance against Sisodia,” the source said, citing the charge sheet.
Sisodia is currently in custody and his multiple bail requests have been rejected by the courts.
