Paddy harvest will increase to 754,000 tonnes by 2022 due to pro-farmer measures by the Telangana state government, Rao said. Addressing the people after the hoisting of the national flag at Government Degree College Siddipet on the eve of National Day on Friday, the minister said Rythu Bandhu, 24/7 electricity supply, Mission Kakatiya and the Kaleshwaram Lifting and Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) have played an important role in changing the lives of farmers.
Rao said fetching a jug of drinking water was a daunting task in the summers before the state was formed, and Telangana has become the first state in the country to provide drinking water to every household under the Mission Bhagiratha programme. Saying that Siddipet used to have only 4,400 drinking water tap connections in 2014, Rao said that number has now increased to 218,000 tap connections.
The Minister said that they are laying ring mains around the town of Siddipet to provide uninterrupted drinking water to Siddipet through the Mallanna Sagar reservoir. He had said that the government had handed over 10,122 2-BHK houses to the homeless in the area. An additional 5,800 homes are under construction in the area, Rao said. Rao elaborates on various welfare and development efforts and how they make a difference in people’s lives.
