Territorial Army (TA) female officers and TA Engineer Corps will be stationed along the Line of Control
New Delhi: Women officers from the Territorial Army (TA) and TA’s engineering regiment will be stationed along the Line of Control (LoC), an official said on Sunday.
Upon approval by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, female officers will also be posted as staff officers at the TA Group Headquarters, Delhi Territorial Army, as per organizational requirements.
The Ministry of Defense said the progressive policy measure was aimed at expanding the employment of female military officers and meeting their career aspirations.
They will now serve and train under the same conditions as their male counterparts, across a wider range of units and appointments.
Since 2019, the Territorial Army has begun commissioning female officers in the Ecological Task Force, TA Petroleum Sector Troops and TA Railroad Corps of Engineers.
Based on the experience gained during this period, a decision has been made to expand the scope of further employment of TA female officers, a Ministry of Defense official said.
The Territorial Army is based on the citizen-soldier army concept, with officers receiving annual training in basic military skills while maintaining gainful employment in civilian life.
Notably, the Armed Forces has taken several steps to promote gender equality, including allocating women to command roles, preparing them for future leadership roles, and allowing them to join artillery regiments.
