Hyderabad: Two major road projects aimed at relieving traffic congestion and reducing travel time for commuters in the Kokapet-Gachibowli area are under development at an estimated cost of Rs 650 crore and are nearing completion.
Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, the executive body, said the two projects, which include a horn interchange at Neopolis and another at Narsingi, will be completed in the coming months.
“We plan to complete the construction of the Narsingi Flyover by February 2023 and the Neopolis Flyover in Kokapet by April 2023. Apart from addressing the future transportation needs of the residents of the area, these two projects will ease the traffic in Kokapet and other areas. Traffic congestion. Nearby areas,” an HMDA official said.
The flared interchange in the Neopolis layout will connect traffic from Neopolis, Movie Tower and Kokapet areas to Gachibowli.
Once the facility is operational, commuters traveling from Neopolis to Gachibowli will not need to use the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The Neopolis interchange is also expected to reduce commute times, officials said.
Other benefits of the project include better connectivity to routes to Kokapet layout, Narsingi, Patancheru and Shamshabad. Ramps being constructed will facilitate traffic flow to these sites. The Narsingi Interchange will help commuters travel to Shamshabad and vice versa.
With the completion of these two facilities, traffic from Kokapet and Narsingi will not need to use the traditional route to cross the roundabout near Narsingi Police Station to reach Gachibowli.
Instead, they can reach their destination via the Neopolis Trumpet Interchange and the Narsingi Interchange.
To further ease traffic along the ORR and nearby areas, Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited has also widened the service roads from Gachibowli to Telangana State Police Academy (TSPA) and Narsingi to Kollur. Both of these two-lane stretches have now been widened to four lanes.
Currently, works related to road widening are proceeding at a brisk pace and utilities have been diverted to widen the road. “While roads are being widened, driveways, walkways, medians, gutters and green belts are being developed,” an HMDA official said.
