Food Conclave: A milestone day for Telangana's agri-food industry

Hyderabad: Telangana recorded another major chapter in its industrial history at its first Food Confidential here on Saturday, bringing together more than 100 of the country’s top agri-food industry leaders for an intensive networking session to discuss growth Key Challenges and Opportunities of the Indian Agri-Food Sector.

The most significant takeaway from the campaign was the investment commitments made by 27 companies totaling Rs 7,217.95, promising 58,458 direct and indirect jobs.

Interestingly, the most pledges come from an industry that Telangana has been focusing on recently, namely the oil palm industry. Nine of the 27 companies have announced their intention to set up palm oil processing plants.

The largest investment pledge was also in the same sector, with TS Oil Fed committing Rs 1,055 crore with 14,600 jobs promised, followed by Patanjali Foods Limited at Rs 1,050 crore with 2,900 jobs promised.

Other commitments came from companies like Varun Beverages and Four Zero LLP (Rs 8.29 crore), Jurala Organic Farms (Rs 5.50 crore), Vivek Bio (Rs 2.51 crore) and Modi Naturals Ltd (Rs 3.25 crore), to mention a few.

There are other companies such as Masqati Dairy Products, Heritage Foods, Suguna Foods, Almond House, Wow Momo Foods, etc., investing in various directions including beverage manufacturing units, snacks, ethanol, rice mills and corn processing and soon.

The event, which will become an annual event from now on, will be followed by an inaugural panel discussion on ‘Envisioning the Decade of the Indian Agri-Food Sector’ which will include Dr Ramesh Chand, NITI Aayog Member, RS Sodhi, President, Dairy Association of India , Dr Vijay Gupta, World Food Prize Laureate, former ADG WorldFish Center (CGIAR) and S Shiva Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, ITC.

Five themed tracks centered around agriculture (green), edible oils (yellow), dairy (white), meat and poultry (pink) and aquaculture (blue) were featured during the event.

The one-day event featured 26 panel discussions, five roundtables and more than 40 one-on-one meetings with government and industry leaders.
