Xie Shuwei and Wang Xinyu rallied from a set behind to defeat No. 10 Tyler Townsend and Leila Fernandez

Paris: Xie Shuwei/Wang Xinyu chased after a set behind and defeated No. 10 Taylor Townsend/Leila Fernandez 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 to win at the Philippe Chatrier Stadium. Won the French Open Women’s Doubles Championship. French Open, here on Sunday.
In their second match since forming in Strasbourg, Xie and Wang capped off a stunning two weeks in which they beat five seeded teams to claim their first doubles title of the season.
Hsieh, 37, was making her 60th Grand Slam doubles appearance, her fifth Grand Slam trophy in women’s doubles and second at the French Open. She also won three Wimbledon doubles titles in 2013, 2019 and 2021.
For the 21-year-old Vera Wang, this is her third Grand Slam doubles event and her debut at a Grand Slam event.
After Townsend and Fernandez dominated the first set with aggressive play, they soon found themselves broken early in the second.
Hsieh and Wang kept their lead, building a 5-3 lead and winning three sets 5-3 on Townsend’s serve. Townsend and Fernandez roared back and then broke serve to make it 5-5 in the next game.
But Hsieh and Wang beat Fernandez and Townsend 7-5 in the tie-break, recovering from an early mini-break deficit.
The eventual champion carried that momentum into the third set. They broke Fernandez early to build a 3-0 lead before extending it to 5-1 before Hsieh sealed the win after a game.
