GHMC trains unemployed youth from EWS

Courses will be offered to unemployed youth in a variety of fields, including software development, investment banking, web development, nursing assistants, beauty and wellness.

Hyderabad: To upgrade the skillsets and value of jobs of unemployed youth from economically disadvantaged areas (EWS), the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has partnered with voluntary organisation Lighthouse Community Foundation (LCF) in the Twin Cities.

The entire training program is offered free of charge, and placement managers will also help trainees find jobs in different companies. The project is currently being piloted in Shanti Nagar, Chandanagar, with 15 participants who are being trained in spoken English, interview skills, basic computer knowledge and personality development.

LCF members said that once a new building is constructed near the Chandanagar railway station, which will be used by GHMC to provide training exclusively, the innovative training programme will add more participants.

“Each batch we will accommodate around 100 people for training. The number of batches will be determined based on enrollment. I ask Hyderabadians to take advantage of this opportunity and thank Principal Global Services for funding this noble program,” Prashant Reddy from LCF Say.

Meanwhile, GHMC officials said that the priority for upgrading the skillset will be women and slum dwellers, as is the case with the ongoing initiative in Chandanagar. When conducting local surveys, local women are encouraged to take part in training courses, preparatory courses, and arrange visits to training centers.

According to the GHMC, a range of courses will be offered to unemployed youth in fields as diverse as electricians, software development, investment banking, web development, nursing assistants, beauty and wellness. These courses complement the training provided on data entry, non-voice business processes
Outsourcing (BPO), IT and ITES, including Java, web design, computer hardware, etc.

Course durations vary from three to six months, and the training mode will be a combination of online and physical courses, with certificates issued by the LCF. According to GHMC, if an individual is interested in a course that is not offered by the training center, then that individual will be registered to teach that course at a separate institution, at the full cost of LCF.
