Amaravati: A pet dog in the Ambedkar Konasema district of Andhra Pradesh continued to wait for its owner for a night after jumping into the Godavari River. Heartbreaking footage of the pet dog getting close to its owner’s shoes has gone viral on social media. The dog just slept there, waiting for her to come back.
A 22-year-old woman jumped into the river from the GMC Balayogi bridge between Yanam and Jedulangka on Sunday night. At the time of the incident, a large number of tourists flocked to the area to enjoy the sunset.
The woman was walking on the bridge with her pet when she jumped into the river. After passers-by called the police, fishermen on board tried to rescue her, but she was swept away by strong currents.
For evening walkers, it is heartbreaking to see pets moving restlessly along the bridge, looking down at the river. It came back and sat next to the owner’s shoes. It waited all night and slept there. It finally left with the woman’s mother on Monday morning.
The woman, Mandangi Kanchana, 22, of Yanam Ferry Road, is still being searched. Her mother runs a hotel.
Yanam police said they were investigating the cause of the suicide.
Yanam is an enclave in the Union Territory of Pondicherry in Andhra Pradesh.
