Warangal: A goldsmith and his wife died after drinking potassium cyanide and water at their home in Girmajipet, under the confinement of the Inthezarganj Police Station, on Thursday night, it is said.
The deceased were Uppula Satish alias Navadhan (33) and his wife Sravanthi (28). Their son Virat (7) also drank small amounts of the cyanide-laced water that he was given and claimed to be “Tulsi” water. But he reportedly spat it out because of the bad taste. When the couple did not come out of their room for a long time, Satish’s parents became suspicious of the silence in the room and asked them to open the door. After this, Virat managed to remove the latch and opened the door from the inside.
He also explained the incident to his grandparents, who immediately transferred them to MGM Hospital. Doctors pronounced the couple dead and Vera was treated. Later, he was discharged from the hospital.
Although the cause of the suicide has not been ascertained, it is understood that financial problems were the main reason. The parents of Satish, Uppula Moha and his wife Kavitha are Jagtial natives who came to Warangal a few years ago to earn a living. “We have registered a case and the investigation is ongoing,” Inthezarganj Inspector Mallesham said.
