Hyderabad: Hyderabad golfer Sneha Singh was India’s best player in joint 14th place after the first round of final qualifiers at LET Q-School Cartagena in Spain on Sunday.

Of the eight Indians at 146, Sneha shot a 2-under 71 on the South Course at 73. Sneha was five shots behind leader 18-year-old Danish amateur Amalie Leth-Nissen, who opened with a bogey-free 64 (-7).

Among the other Indians, Seher Atwal 70 tied for 30th, while Sharmila Nicollet (73 (even)) and Neha Tripathi 71 (even) tied for 42nd, as players crave full qualification for the Women’s European Tour.

Hitaashee Bakshi 72 (1) and Ridhima Dilawari 74 (1) tied for 65th and Tvesa Malik 78 (5) and Asmitha Sathish 76 (5) tied for 126th.

Sneha had four birdies and two bogeys, while Seher had four birdies and three bogeys.

Twisa, who has underperformed in 2022, got off to another disappointing start with five bogeys and two birdies on the par-73 South Course for a 5-over 78.

The qualifier was a 90-hole stroke play with a 72-hole finish to the top 60 and a tie. For the first four rounds, players will alternate between the North Course (par 71) and the South Course (par 73). The fifth round will be played on the South Course.

Top 20 and ties will receive Class 12 cards, 21-50 and ties will receive Class 16 status. Rest will be eligible for class 19 status.

Leth-Nissen was spared the final round because she is ranked in the top 25 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She got off to a good start on the North Course, with a birdie on the 11th hole and three back-to-back shots on holes 14-16.

The teen added three more birdies on her back nine (front nine) to move herself to 7-under par at the top of the leaderboard at Club La Manga.

Two players in second place, two shots behind the leaders, were Norway’s Dorthea Forbrigd with a 68 (-5) on the South Course and a 66 (-5) on the North Course. 5) Sophie Hausmann of Germany.

A shot back were Australia’s Gabriela Rufulls and England’s Lauren Horsford, who tied for fourth at 4 under.
