Diksha Dagar continues to excel, birdies three of final five holes to finish strong and head into title contention
All rooms: India’s Diksha Dagar, fresh off last week’s sixth-place finish, continued to show good form and finished strong with three birdies in her final five holes to compete at the Helsingborg Open championship title.
Dagar, one-time winner of the Ladies European Tour, tied for second at 70-69. She was 5 under through 36 holes, two shots behind leader Nicole Garcia of South Africa (68-69).
Among the Indians, Diksha and Vani Kapoor are sure to advance, while Tvesa Malik is on the line. Seher Atwal and Amandeep Drall will miss the cut, which will likely be at 4 over, while the top 60 pros and ties will advance. There are still five amateurs at 4 or more over par.
Denmark’s Smila Tarning Soenderby has not missed a cut this season and is tied for second with Diksha.
While Diksha was by far the best Indian, Vani Kapoor, who was knocked out in the last three matches, showed a welcome comeback. She shot 73-70 for a 1-under 143 and was tied for 14th, a position that could change as others complete their rounds.
In the second round, Diksha started with a birdie and a bogey over the first 13 holes. She birdied three of her final five holes on Nos. 14, 16 and 18 to move up to second for her second LET title.
Diksha’s first win at the 2019 South African Women’s Open came in her fourth start on the LET. She also has five top 10s.
On a windy first day, Diksha made six birdies but made four bogeys. She was tied for the lead starting on No. 10, but made three bogeys with two birdies on the final six holes of the front nine at Elerum Golf Club.
Twisa was 2 over in the first round, 4 over with 15 holes in the second round and 6 over with three holes remaining. She appears to be out early again. She saved the day with birdies on the 16th and 18th and finished the day with a 74 and a 36-hole total of 4 over.
Seher Atwal (82-71) and Amandeep Drall (78-76) are sure to be out.
