New Delhi: The government banned the export of non-basmati white rice on Thursday, according to a notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
“The export policy for non-basmati white rice (half-milled or whole-milled, whether polished or glazed)…is amended from free to prohibited,” the DGFT said in a notification.
However, it said that export of this rice would be permitted under certain conditions, such as when loading of such rice had already started prior to this notification.
It added that exports will also be done on the basis of licenses granted by the government to other countries to meet their food security needs and in accordance with the requirements of their governments.
