New Delhi: Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia allegedly created a WhatsApp account using a SIM card, reportedly in the name of his personal assistant Devender Sharma, a source with knowledge of the developments in connection with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into the Delhi Excise Tax Policy case said on Thursday.
Sources said Sisodia only used WhatsApp, while Sharma used a regular mobile number.
“This SIM card was inserted into another mobile phone owned by Sharma. Later, Sharma may have shared an OTP (one-time password) with Sisodia so that he could use it as his WhatsApp number. The OTP was used several times in the WhatsApp was reinstalled on Sisodia’s phone from July 23, the date when the Delhi LG asked the CBI to investigate the alcohol issue,” the source said.
This raises questions as to why Sisodia would use his PA’s SIM card to create a WhatsApp account, the source mentioned.
Sisodia has been evasive when asked about using someone else’s mobile phone number to create a WhatsApp account.
Sisodia is currently behind the bar. He recently withdrew his bail application.
So far, the ED has lodged four charge sheets on the matter – one main charge sheet and three supplementary charge sheets.
ED’s case is based on FIR (First Information Report) registered by CBI. The anti-money laundering agency is investigating the matter further and another charge sheet is expected to be filed.
