Guitarist Banned from Playing in Public, Mixed Online Reaction

Hyderabad: In a video that is circulating online, a busker plays a guitar in a public place when he is interrupted by a police officer and asked to leave.

The clip shows the man sitting on the floor playing his instrument as bystanders stop to enjoy his music and film him on video. Asking him to stop, the policeman sternly removed his hand from the strings.

Actor and Twitter user Rajesh Tailang shared the video, writing: “Watched this video on Instagram. @DelhiPolice This is not done yet. These artists make our Delhi more beautiful and musical. Shame! (Original text in this way)”

Reaction to the video was mixed online. Some users called the officer’s actions reckless and unnecessary.

“So sad… considering we’re seeing street musicians in Europe. If he’s good they should give him a platform. It’s not like he has speakers and bangs,” wrote one user supporting the entertainer.

“Is it illegal to sing or play music in a public place without actually bothering anyone and causing any disturbance or trouble? Why don’t you react exactly like that when making hate speech in a public place? (sic)” another asked.

While some expressed support, others pointed out that he could hinder the normal flow of traffic. “It has a place. No one has the right to sit down and play their music all they want, whether everyone else likes it or not,” argued one user.

The acts in which musicians are spotted on video are often referred to as street performances, a culture well known in European countries. Artists self-register and perform in permitted areas.
