Bangalore: On Tuesday, mid-level batsman Hanuma Vihari admitted that returning to the Indian team is difficult and being dropped at times can affect a player’s mentality.
Verhari has been sidelined for India since his appearance against England in Birmingham last July.
“Once you get knocked out or thrown aside by the Indian team, it’s hard to come back. It affects your mentality. I went through that last season,” Vhari said at the South Division Dulip Cup, which kicks off here on Wednesday. Said before the semi-final game against North District.
However, his hopes were not dashed. Vehari took inspiration from Ajinkya Rahane, who recently returned to the Indian team.
“You’re going to want to come back until you retire. Even though I’m 29, I still have that thought. You’ve seen Ajinkya Rahane make a comeback at 35,” he said.
“I feel like I have a long way to go and can contribute a lot to the Indian team, especially in Test cricket.” The Hyderabad-born batsman said he has to play in the domestic season. Struggling to open the door for the Indian team again.
“This season, I want to put everything aside and focus on my batting and improve my technique. Whenever I get the chance, I think I’m doing a good job. Maybe my best performance is for the Indian team It’s not good enough for me. I’m going to try to get better,” he said.
Vihari has candidly admitted that returning to the Indian team through the IPL will be tough for him.
“I have no chance to affect the IPL and I only have the domestic season. So, I have to fight hard in the domestic season,” Velhari said.
But Verhari strongly objected to labeling him a one-format player.
“People have labeled me a test player but it’s not fair. If you look at my IPL journey, I was doing well at 19, 20 years old. Although I have grown into a white ball player, But I don’t have much chance.
“It’s not fair to brand players, good players can play all three formats. Going forward, I want to play games in all formats.”
