New Delhi: A former Delhi High Court judge who “lost” his pet dog for venturing out of the gate due to the “ruthlessness” of sentries has angrily demanded the suspension of the security guards stationed at his official residence.

However, Judge Golang Kantor later dropped his request and said he did not want any action taken against the security personnel. He has written to a senior city police official asking to suspend security guards stationed at his residence for allegedly failing to lock the gate of his bungalow, leading to the loss of his pet dog, a Delhi police official said on Saturday.

It was not immediately clear whether the dog got lost in the city traffic chaos or was crushed to death by a car.
Justice Kantor was recently transferred to the Calcutta High Court.

“It is with great pain and anguish that I write this letter. I have lost my pet dog due to the lack of dedication and incompetence of the security guards at my official bungalow.

“Despite my repeated telling them to keep the door locked, the security guards at my residence failed to follow my instructions and did not perform their professional duties. This negligence and incompetence requires immediate attention as it may pose a serious danger to my life and liberty,” he said in a letter to Delhi Police.

“The above-mentioned security guards are so ruthless in carrying out their duties that they may cause any unpleasant incident at my residence, and I fear for my safety. The gate is not guarded and the lack of checking of movement and entry and exit of the gate of my residence is outrageous,” he said.

Kanter’s June 12 letter to the Joint Police (Security) Commissioner went viral on social media.

He demanded that the Delhi Police immediately suspend these officers as their actions are not in line with the duties of government civil servants and conduct a thorough investigation.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Kanter wrote them the letter last month. However, Kanter later told them he did not want any action taken against the officers stationed at his residence.

The revelations came days after Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of India wrote to the Chief Justice of the High Court that the protocol facilities available to judges should not be used in a manner that “could inconvenience others or arouse public criticism of the judiciary”. Judge Chandrachud has lodged a serious dissent against the Allahabad High Court Registry, demanding an explanation from the Railways for the “inconvenience” caused by a judge not being provided with pantry facilities on a delayed train.
