Hyderabad: After a month of waiting, Siddipet, Sangareddy and Medak regions have finally received much-needed heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, bringing relief to parched land. The drought that lasted until Tuesday in the three regions was now interrupted by a heavy rain, giving farmers and residents hope again.
The Siddipet area in particular saw an average rainfall of 62.4mm on Tuesday, while the Dhoolmita Mandal headquarters saw an unprecedented 159.5mm, setting a new record. Thoguta and Mirudoddi receive an average rainfall of 125.3 mm and 128.5 mm respectively, while Madduru Mandal receives an average rainfall of 116 mm. Heavy rain continued into parts of Sidipet County into Wednesday night, with the total since June 1 at 142.5 mm, 13 percent above the normal average of 125.7 mm. This welcome surplus brings smiles to the farmers as the stream begins to flow and the tank welcomes a promising inflow.
The average rainfall in the Medak area during the same period was 44.6 millimeters. Chilpiched and Alladurgam Mandals received 116.6 mm and 105.5 mm of rainfall respectively. The average rainfall in Sangareddy was 41.8mm, Vatpally and Raikod Mandals received 128.7mm and 114.3mm respectively, and Andole Mandal received 105.9mm. Farmers in these areas are optimistic that a few more days of rain of similar intensity will be enough to meet their needs this month.
