Kuala Lumpur: The two main rivals, India and Pakistan, are drawn in the same group for the 2023 Men’s Youth Asia Cup in Salalah, Oman from May 23 to June 1 this year.
India and Pakistan are drawn in Group A of the 10-team competition with Japan, Thailand and Chinese Taipei and will meet in the group stage on May 27. Group B includes South Korea, Malaysia, hosts Oman, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) announced.
The teams in the preliminaries will play round robin in their respective groups, with the top two in each group advancing to the semi-finals, which will be held on May 31. The final will be held on June 1st.
“The top five teams from India, Pakistan, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia automatically qualify based on their world rankings. Whereas Bangladesh, Oman, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei won the January 2023 Muscat, Oman qualification for the Men’s Youth AHF Cup held,” the AHF said in a statement.
In addition to Malaysia, which has already qualified for the hosts, the top three teams from the tournament will advance to the 2023 FIH Men’s Youth Hockey World Cup, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 5-16. 2023.
JR Women’s events start on June 2
Meanwhile, the 2023 Women’s Youth Asia Cup will be held in Kakamigahara, Japan from June 2-11, 2023.
India are in Group A with South Korea, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan, while Group B includes China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
The semi-finals will be held on June 10 and the final will be held on June 11.
The top five teams from India, China, South Korea, Japan and Malaysia automatically advance based on their world rankings; Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan and Indonesia win the October 2022 Taldykur, Kazakhstan Qualification for the Girls’ Junior AHF Cup held in STEM.
The top three teams in the Championship will qualify for the 2023 FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup.
