Hyderabad: Visitors to the Kothaguda Botanic Gardens will be able to experience the culture and way of life of the tribal people, in addition to learning more about the relationship between humans and wildlife, the environment and nature, as the Telangana State Forest Development Corporation (TSFDC) is developing Virtual Safari and Virtual Eco theme park.
The park is located in the Night Safari area and covers 106 acres adjacent to the Arboretum. Preliminary works such as the entrance arch, conversion of the existing building into an indoor theater and presentation room are in advanced stages of completion. TSFDC chairman V Pratap Reddy said here on Saturday that the new virtual theme park will be ready in a few months.
The idea is to develop the botanical garden into one of the major tourist attractions in Hyderabad. People, especially children, can learn about many functions of plants and animals. He said here Saturday that efforts are underway to add more attractions and draw more crowds to the Arboretum.
In addition to botanical gardens, TSFDC is also developing urban parks in different regions. Last year, four city parks were developed including Veduru Vanam, Thumukunta, Vana Drushyam, Lalgadi Malakpet, Chandana Vanam, Gowdelly and Forestrek Park, Chilkur.
Among these parks, Forestrek Park in Chilkur is very popular among tourists. According to G Chandrashekhar Reddy, managing director of TSFDC, about 400 to 500 people visit the park every day, and on weekends, the number increases to 1,000 or more.
TSFDC also works to increase income from different sources through effective planning and planting. During 2014, TSFDC made a loss of Rs 8 crore and made a profit of Rs 8 crore in the last financial year, he said, adding to the current financial year, the target has been set to earn at least Rs 100,000 crore, he said.
Revenues in 2022-23 are up 90 percent from last year and in 2023-24, he added, with a further 30 percent increase due to higher prices and demand for products from corporate regions certified by the German Forest Stewardship Council.
