Hyderabad: Congress leaders protest Rahul's disqualification

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders held a satyagraha at the party office in Hyderabad on Sunday to protest the disqualification of party leader Rahul Gandhi from parliament.

Manikrao Thakare, head of the Telangana Congress party, led the protest at the party’s state headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan.

Congress Party Central Leader Tariq Anwar, Telangana Congress Party Committee (TPCC) Chairman Revante Reddy, Congressman Utam Kumar Reddy and other leaders participated in the protest .

Congress leaders condemned Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, saying it was a plot by the Modi government. They vowed to continue protesting until they were disqualified.

Manikrao Thakre said Rahul Gandhi was targeted because he exposed Adani’s looting of public wealth with the support of the Modi government. He said the Congress leader has made it clear that he is not afraid of anyone and will continue to speak out for the country’s poor.

Revanth Reddy claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification was a conspiracy by the Narendra Modi government. “The government was unable to face Rahul Gandhiji politically and therefore disqualified him,” he said.

“Today the BJP may disqualify him, but tomorrow he will be prime minister,” said Revanth Reddy.

Uttam Kumar Reddy claims Rahul Gandhi was disqualified under conspiracy. He said the speed at which congressional leaders were sentenced in defamation cases raised many questions. He noted that defamation cases go on for years, but in this case, the court delivered its verdict within weeks.

The former TPCC chairman said that while the Surat court had given Rahul Gandhi a month to challenge the verdict in a higher court, the Modi government acted hastily and disqualified him within 24 hours.

The Congress leader said the government had disqualified Rahul Gandhi from keeping his mouth shut because he had been raising his voice in parliament to expose the relationship between Modi and Adani.

MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said all MPs should resign if necessary in show of solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.

Former Minister of State K. Jana Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, former Union Minister Renuka Chowdary, former MP V. Hanumantha Rao and others participated in the protest.
