Hyderabad: Cricket fans from Hyderabad are all ready to welcome back their beloved IPL player David Warner. Over the years, the cricketer has developed a strong connection with the city.
The Australian cricketer has long been linked with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Hyderabad City, and he played for the IPL team for seven years from 2014 to 2021. He was also the team captain when the team won its first IPL trophy in 2016.
In 2022, he was bought by Delhi Capitals at auction due to a dispute with the SRH team management. He remains in DC for the 2023 season and has also been named captain. Today will be his first return to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium after leaving the Hyderabad team, which did not host any matches last season due to the pandemic. Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Delhi Capitals this evening at 7:30pm.
In a video posted by DC handle, Warner expressed his joy to be back in Hyderabad. He mentioned that he did not have the opportunity to say goodbye to all the fans here and was looking forward to returning to the Uppal Stadium.
Fans of the cricketer have also been causing a stir on social media platforms, expressing their excitement to see him back in the city. “It will be an exciting day for David Warner to return to Hyderabad today, he is the soul of SRH and played for Orange for 7 seasons,” wrote one user.
“Adopted son of Hyderabad returns to Uppal tonight,” wrote another, posting a scene from the movie Baahubali. “After many years, Warner will come to Hyderabad. David Warner, adopted son of Hyderabad, SRH forever proud Orange Army We want Warner’s special knock and SRH (sic) victory,” demanded another fan.
Interestingly, there were a lot of memes about SRH owner Kavya Maran meeting the players at today’s game. In the 2021 IPL season, Warner was removed as SRH captain and even missed the game due to some internal problems. He was subsequently fired the following season.
