Hyderabad: Customs officers at RGI Airport in Shamshabad have caught a passenger suspected of smuggling gold and confiscated gold worth Rs 2 million. 181 million on Wednesday.
The passenger, arriving from Dubai, found an emergency light while checking people and luggage. “After opening and carefully examining the emergency lights, it was discovered that the battery portion of the emergency lights concealed a battery-shaped piece of gold weighing 2,915 grams.
The gold was encased in a black casing and secured in place of the emergency light batteries,” the customs official said.
The recovered gold was worth Rs 1,81,60,450 and was confiscated by customs officials.
The passenger has been arrested under the Indian Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is ongoing.
