Hyderabad: While India’s top gymnasts showcased their skills at the upcoming Asian Games trials, Hyderabad’s Budda Aruna Reddy was sidelined.
The former World Cup vault bronze medalist withdrew from the Asian Games with a third ACL-grade injury to his right leg and fourth surgery. The gymnast, who competed in the Asian Games in 2014 and 2018, is now focusing on recovering.
The 27-year-old Hyderabad girl is practicing on the hard courts of Gaudium School, her coach Manoj Rana watching her. “I have accepted the fact that injuries are part of the game. If I stop and think about it, it takes away my energy. Instead, I choose to invest it in training. I always look on the bright side. I Training hard to get back into competitive shape for the next national competition in October,” Aruna said.

When it comes to comebacks, she knows a thing or two, as she has managed to come back from injuries twice. “Before this, I had injured my right leg twice. So I’ve made a comeback. What I’ve learned from that is that I shouldn’t let negative thoughts enter my head. Physically, I’ve shown that I can be successful Comeback. It also made me mentally strong,” she noted.
“Due to the long recovery time I started working out very soon after the surgery. I am in full fitness. I am doing all my daily work. I have also recently started working on vaults, floors and crossbar landings. The plan is to start at ten Come back with the Nationals in July, and then plan to play some invitational tournaments abroad,” she explained.
After missing the Asian Games, Aruna set his sights on next year’s Paris Olympics. “Olympic qualifying will end in October and three teams have already qualified. There are still a few places left in various categories for the World Cup competition to be held from January to March next year. We will know the qualifying scores after October . We will work hard to qualify for the Paris Olympics.”
Asked about her battle with injuries, she said: “Whenever I was at the peak of my performance, I was injured. I went through four years with injuries. I missed the 2021 Commonwealth Games and the Tokyo Olympics. It is my dream to represent my country in the Olympics, and I will go all out in the trials,” she revealed.
