Hyderabad: The traffic police in the three districts filed a total of 110,310 cases of reckless driving this year and filed charges in court.
Most drivers attended a consultation with a traffic training institute and paid a fine of Rs 10,000 in court, while some others were sentenced to jail terms ranging from one day to two weeks. In 2022, approximately 2,700 people will be in jail for drunk driving (DD) across these three boards.
“Regular checks for DUIs help control fatal traffic accidents. In 2022, we registered 10,510 DD cases and offenders were counseled in the presence of their families,” said Rachakonda DCP (Traffic) D Srinivas.
DUI checks also help reduce serious crashes in which three or more people die. “Local police identify hotspots, especially where DUI-related incidents are reported, and conduct regular inspections. Drivers are charged and they must appear in court. Also, we are writing to the RTA to suspend drivers’ licenses,” Cyber abad DCP (traffic) T Vijay Kumar said, adding that so far, details of about 32,282 have been sent to RTA asking them to suspend.
The Hyderabad traffic police pay more attention to the road section where the bar is located for inspection. “In some cases, the drivers attacked the traffic police after being caught. The police are complaining to the local security police station and filing a case against the offender,” the official said.
