Participants reflect on George Reddy’s role as a young leader and his relationship with Osmania University student politics

Hyderabad: On the 51st anniversary of the death of the student leader at Osmania University, George Reddy, social activists, former colleagues, student leaders and members of the PDSU (Progressive Democratic Student Union) participated in a special walk from the Faculty of Arts building to the Kinnera Hotel on campus Friday inside.
Participants recalled George Reddy’s role as a young leader and his relationship with Osmania University student politics.
George Reddy is an MSc in Physics and was awarded the Gold Medal in Nuclear Physics. Influenced by Marxist thought, he resolutely opposed social discrimination and social inequality. The PDSU member said he believes in gender equality and spoke about the importance of social, political and financial equality for socioeconomically and socially disadvantaged groups.
The extraordinary walk culminated on April 14, 1972, when he was attacked and stabbed to death near the Kinnera Hostel. Intellectuals, student activists and others attended the memorial service.
Former Student Council Convenor Guruva Reddy, Co-convenor Dr Konda Nageswar, current and former members of PDSU including M Prakash Rao, RTC JAC leader Govardhan, Advocate Raghavendra Prasad, social activist and folk singer Arunodaya Vimalakka were in attendance .
