Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday launched the “Lake Development Programme” to revitalize and fully develop urban lakes.
Under the plan, private companies will undertake revitalization works as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under the supervision of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority. On Tuesday, 50 lakes were handed over to builders/developers, with the Minister handing over the certificate of MoU to property development companies adopting the lakes for development.
Walking paths, landscaping, open gyms, benches, toilets, lighting, children’s play areas, gazebos and amphitheatres will be present on the lakes, the minister said. He also said that according to government records, there are some private lands in the lake area and to address this, transferable development rights (TDR) certificates are being issued. “We have issued 182 TDR certificates through the acquisition of private land in 13 lakes,” the minister said, asking the owners of Shikam Pattas to take advantage of this opportunity and obtain TDR certificates as they cannot build concrete structures in them.
