Hyderabad: Hyderabad found itself in the heat on Wednesday. The scorching sun brought temperatures up across the city, with temperatures in eight districts exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
Khairatabad experienced scorching heat with a maximum temperature of 41.6 degrees Celsius. Dr K Nagaratna, head of the India Meteorological Department Hyderabad Division (IMD-H), said the high temperatures are expected to persist until the first week of June.
The arrival of the much-anticipated southwest monsoon in the state is also expected to face slight delays. “While Hyderabad may experience sporadic pre-monsoon showers in the coming week, they are likely to be infrequent and offer little relief from the sweltering heat,” Dr Nagaratna said.
The heatwave sweeping Hyderabad is not an isolated incident confined to the city. Several parts of the state are also reeling from extreme temperatures, necessitating a red alert for residents.
Julurpad in Bhadradri Kothagudem district bore the brunt of the heat on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring to a staggering 46.4 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, at the Khanapur PS site in Khammam, the temperature reached 45.4 degrees Celsius.
