Hyderabad: Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) chairman Manne Krishank has urged Municipalities and Urban Development (MA&UD) Special Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar to protect Trimulgherry Lake from pollution.
He called for the diversion of sewage entering Trimulgherry Lake and sought its full restoration and beautification.
In a letter to the Special Principal Secretary, Chrisshank said Lake Trimulgherry was polluted by raw sewage from the surrounding colonies, causing surface water contamination and inconvenience to local people. He pointed out that in addition to polluting the groundwater caused by sewage entering the lake, the threat of mosquitoes has also increased and many people have been affected by waterborne diseases.
Also, TSMDC chairman asked Arvind Kumar to relocate the dump in Trimulgherry. In 2016, the roof of Gandhi Community Hall in Trimulgherry was removed by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) to create a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) installation. However, SCB shelved the plan and the place gradually turned into a dump.
Krishank mentioned that elected representatives and locals have asked SCB authorities to relocate the dump, but without success.
