Hyderabad: Young writers making waves

Tamara Nambiar

Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Tamaara Nambiar has reached new heights in the literary world with her debut novel Undiscovered. It’s a collection of 38 poems she’s written that juggle concepts like fairy tales, earth elements, and karma.

For the 11-year-old girl, it all started when she picked up her grandpa’s tablet to write her first poem on a perfect day at the age of five. Since then, she has written several poems that are now part of her book.

“Writing poetry comes naturally to me. I observe what is around me and draw inspiration from it. Since I am young and there is still much to discover, my book is titled Undiscovered. In a way, That leaves room for me to experience more,” she said.

Her poems “Into the Blinding Light” and “Into the Darkness” are two of her personal favorites. Tamaara rarely rhymes her sentences with heart, displays an uncanny sensitivity to human life, and portrays complex emotions befitting her age with disconcerting ease. The illustrations in the book are also a product of her imagination. Using sharp tools, she etched them into zinc sheets, which were later printed by renowned artist K Laxma Goud.

The sixth grader, who is an Aga Khan Academy student, said science was her favorite subject.

When Tamaara isn’t in school or writing poetry, she can be found practicing either instrument or vocal. Her dream in life is to become a singer songwriter, just like one of her idols, Taylor Swift.
