Sreenidi Deccan FC beat Mumbai Kenkre FC 1-0 thanks to Faysal Shayesteh’s solo
Hyderabad: With Faysal Shayesteh’s only goal, Sreenidi Deccan FC beat Mumbai Kenkre FC 1-0 in their I-League match at the Deccan Arena on Saturday. The win puts the Deccan Warriors at the top of the standings with 22 points from 10 games.
Sreenidi Deccan FC got off to a good start in the first half as they controlled most of the possession and created two chances that striker David Castaneda and winger Ramhlunchhunga couldn’t convert.
Their dominance was rewarded, however, when Faisal put the ball into the corner to give his side the lead in the 19th minute.
The Deccan Warriors took the lead at half-time, but their narrow lead meant Mumbai Kenkray FC were still in the game.
Neither side created significant gaps in the second quarter as the play followed a similar pattern with Srenididgan FC holding the ball and Mumbai Kenkray FC keeping the ball tight.
Left back Asraf Mondal almost sealed the score in the closing seconds but his low shot from the left was saved by Kenkre FC goalkeeper Padam Chhetri.
Sreenidi Deccan FC travel to New Delhi to face Rajasthan United FC in their next Hero I-League match on January 11.
