GP Dr Raja Sekhar, Professor of Mathematics, IIT Kharagpur, has been awarded the ‘National Mathematician of the Year 2023’ award from the National Institute of Technology, Warangal

Dr Raja Sekhar, GP of IIT Kharagphur, received the National Mathematician Award-2023 at NIT Warangal on Monday.
Warangal: Dr GP Raja Sekhar, Professor of Mathematics at IIT Kharagpur, received the ‘National Mathematician of the Year 2023’ award from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal here on Monday. The award is established by the Ponnala Foundation in Hyderabad.
Dr. Raja Sekhar said after receiving the award that mathematics is the language of science, and the better one can understand the language, the better one can communicate. Mathematics provides an opportunity to analyze and express reasoning logically. Raja Sekhar received his PhD in Mathematics-Fluid Mechanics from the University of Hyderabad (UoH) in 1993 with an M. Phil. (Applied Mathematics: Fluid Mechanics) from the same school team.
Former chief secretary to the Telangana government, Dr SK Joshi, who was the main guest on the programme, said keeping mental skills intact was real mathematics. He also said that mathematics is the oldest science, without mathematics, the existence of other branches is inconceivable. “It is claimed that all the technological advancements made by modern man depend to a large extent on mathematics, and Indians have contributed enormously in mathematics,” he said.
Ponnala Foundation Chairman and former Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, NIT Director NV Ramana Rao and others also spoke.
