Hyderabad: Temperatures dropped sharply to a minimum as frigid air swept across Hyderabad. Many parts of the city are seeing lows of 15C and below, with the cold wave not expected to subside until the weekend.
The Indian Meteorological Department – Hyderabad (IMD-H) issued a coded yellow warning for the city on Thursday. With clear skies and chilly winds blowing across the state capital, the mercury is likely to sink. Smog or mist is expected to prevail in the morning.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the city’s average minimum temperature in November is 19.3 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures have been gradually dropping to below normal levels over the past few days.
Lows will continue to hover between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius on Thursday, according to meteorological officials.
Temperatures plummeted in the last 24 hours to 8.30am on Wednesday, with Malkajgiri freezing at 13.3C, followed by Rajendranagar (13.7C), Secunderabad (14.4C), Sarul Nagar (14.8C) and Hyde In Rabah, the overall temperature is 15.5 degrees Celsius.
In its main weather watch, IMD noted that Wednesday’s minimum temperature deviation was significantly below normal (-3.1°C to -5.1°C) in some parts of the state.
Amber warnings were issued for Adilabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts on Thursday.
According to IMD, minimum temperatures of 11 degrees Celsius are expected in these regions over the next three to four days.
