The number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 40,215, according to figures updated by the United Health Ministry on Wednesday.

New Delhi: India recorded 7,830 new COVID-19 infections in a single day, the highest in 223 days, as the number of active cases rose to 40,215, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.
The death toll from the disease has risen to 5,31,016 with 16 new deaths – 2 each in Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, One each in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, five in Kerala – data updated at 8am.
It shows that the total number of Covid cases in the country is 4.47 crore (4,47,76,002).
On September 1 last year, the country recorded 7,946 new COVID-19 cases in a single day.
Active cases now account for 0.09 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate is 98.72 percent, according to the Ministry of Health website.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease jumped to 4,420,4771, while the fatality rate was 1.19%, the data showed.
According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore doses of the vaccine have been administered in the country so far in the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
