New Delhi: The Indian Hockey Federation announced on Friday that the 24-member Indian men’s hockey team will take part in the 100th Anniversary International Championship of the Spanish Hockey Federation in Terrassa, Spain from July 25-30.
India will face England, the Netherlands and hosts Spain in the four-nation tournament as they prepare for the long-awaited 2023 Asian Championships in Chennai, followed by the crucial Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The team will continue to be led by ace drag defender Harmanpreet Singh, with prolific midfielder Hardik Singh as vice-captain.
The goalkeeping division will consist of the talented Sri Jesh Prathu Ravindran and Krishan Bahadur Pathak, while the full-back roster includes Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Roshida Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh and Sanjay. In addition, defenders Varun Kumar and Nilam Sanjeep Seth, who missed the Belgian International Hockey Federation Professional League game, were also included in the team list.
Meanwhile, the midfield will be dominated by energetic and dynamic players like Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Shamsher Singh and Raj Kumar Pal. Additionally, Sumit and Nilakantha Sharma returned to the team after their absence from the Belgian International Hockey Federation Professional League.
The forward line consists of Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Mandeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Sukhjit Singh (Sukhjeet Singh, Abhishek, Pawan, Dilpreet Singh, Simranjeet Singh and Kati Selva Composed by Karthi Selvam. These skilled and agile strikers are capable of scoring key goals, creating scoring chances and exerting constant pressure on the opposition defence.
When talking about team selection, head coach Craig Fulton said: “We have carefully selected a balanced team that brings together experience and youthful energy.
