New Delhi: With back-to-back victories to give them some momentum, Delhi Capitals will be hoping their batsmen can replenish the bowling squad as they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their season double in a battle against IPL underdogs here on Saturday.
Both teams will enter the game after DC won their seven-game winning streak on Monday, and SRH will be eager to reciprocate and end their three-game losing streak. Skipper David Warner organized his troops well against his former team the other day, using the spin of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav to stifle the chase, while Seamer Mukesh Kumar held his own in the final, Also defended 12 points.
While Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje also played well, the spinning duo of Axar and Kuldeep conceded just 43 balls and took three wickets in the middle eight overs. Batting let them down, however, with Manish Pandey and Axar Patel managing to lift the Capitals from 62 for 5 to 128 overs.
While skipper David Warner did the heavy lifting for the most part, his innings lacked the usual finesse as he faced the most penalties in this IPL powerhouse. The fact that Derry struggled to get a solid opener at the other end only added to his concerns.
Phil Salt was tested the other day, but he was out, while Mitchell Marsh looked good during his brief stint with SRH, but in five innings 31 points tell his story.
Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Hakim Khan have also been struggling and if it weren’t for Axar, Delhi’s performance in the IPL could have been embarrassing. As it turns out, the spin all-rounder is more than just a handful of bats, and DC needs to move up his order to get the most out of his skills.
SRH, on the other hand, looked like they were winning for most of their last match, but things quickly went downhill as a slow start to the chase turned out to be costly. After his first IPL top 100, Harry Brook has been struggling to get into the power game. The England batsman scored 13, 3, 9, 18 and 7 and failed to get SRH started.
Mayank Agarwal has two over 40 runs so far, while Rahul Tripathi is not out against the Punjab Kings since hitting 74. Abhishek Sharma also struggled to score. Skippers Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen couldn’t do much either, and SRH had to step up their batting to have any hope of turning it around.
It’s the bowlers who look more in sync as the spinners complement the seamers. If Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2 for 11 for the money the other day, then spinner Washington Sundar was nothing short of sensational when he snatched three wickets in the 8th innings to leave DC for 5 for 72 and they hoped again Put on a great show ball.
