Mumbai: The All India Senior Selection Committee has appointed Ishan Kishan to replace KL Rahul, who will miss the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in London next month.
On May 1, Rahul injured his right thigh while playing in match 43 of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Lucknow Super Giants and Bengaluru Royal Challengers.
After consulting with specialists, it was decided that Rahul would undergo surgery at the earliest opportunity and then undergo the same rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. He has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah informed in a press release on Monday.
Meanwhile, the BCCI also clarified the injuries sustained by Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav, both of whom appear to be unable to participate in the WTC finals at the London Oval from 7-11 June 2023.
Jaydev Unadkat tripped over the side rope while bowling at the net and injured his left shoulder. Having sought specialist consultation, the left-arm fast bowler is currently undergoing shoulder strength and rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. He will decide at a later stage whether to participate in the WTC finals, the press release said.
Umesh Yadav suffered a minor injury to his left hamstring during match 36 of IPL 2023 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knights (KKR) on April 26.
The fast bowler is currently under the care of KKR’s medical team and has started low-intensity bowling as part of his recovery process. BCCI informed that the BCCI medical team is in regular contact with the KKR medical team and is closely monitoring the progress of Umesh.
A call will also be made at a later date regarding his participation in the WTC Final.
