Hyderabad: Defending champions of the Indian Super League (ISL) Hyderabad FC beat North East United 6-1 at the GMC Balayogi Arena in Gachibowli, Hyderabad on Thursday for their fourth victory in the trot.
Javier Siverio (8′, 73′) scored twice, while Borja Herrera, Odei Onaindia and Joel Chianese added goals for the defending champions and Hyderabad FC’s last goal was an own goal by Gaurav Bora.
Four goals were scored in the first half, the first being scored by Siverio in the eighth minute. Herrera deflected a corner before Siverio volleyed sideways past Mirshad Michu from close range.
Herrera went from provider to scorer in the 24th minute, cutting in from the right before dribbling past two Northeastern United defenders with a shot blocked. Michu got the ball in the glove, but it slipped past him at the near post.
After half an hour, the defending champions led by three points. Herrera was again at the heart of the operation. The Spanish midfielder’s free-kick was cleared by Borra’s header but only reached Onandia, who pounced on it and buried it next to the keeper.
Five minutes later, Wilma Jordan’s header was saved by the goalkeeper and the Highlanders pulled one back a minute later.
Hyderabad failed to clear the ball correctly when Pragyan Gogoi flicked the ball back into the box and Aaron Evans jumped the offside trap and passed the ball past Gurmeet Singh.
In the last quarter of the game, the long diagonal came to Yasser on the left. The winger sent a low pass and Siverio sent the ball into the baseline.
Four minutes later, substitute Joel Chianese was singled out by Halicharan Narzari and scored on his debut.
Ten minutes later, Chianese scored with a header. The goalkeeper’s effort to pounce on Bora was parried by the goalkeeper, and the defenders only managed to head the ball back into their own net.
The victory puts Hyderabad at the top of the table again, ahead of Mumbai City FC who have played a game less
