New Delhi: Top banker J. Swaminathan took office as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday.
The government appointed him as Deputy Governor on 21 June for a three-year term commencing on the date of taking office or until further order, whichever is earlier.
Swaminathan was Managing Director, Corporate Banking and Subsidiaries, State Bank of India (SBI) prior to his appointment as Deputy Governor.
As Deputy Governor, he will be in charge of the Consumer Education and Protection, Oversight, Financial Inclusion and Development, Inspection, Premises and Rajbhasha ministries.
During his more than 34-year career at SBI, Swaminathan has held various roles in corporate and international banking, retail and digital banking, treasury and assurance functions.
