Japan: PM Modi unveils bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima

Japan: PM Modi unveils bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima, Japan, on Saturday, saying his ideals of peace reverberated globally and brought strength to millions.

In a tweet, Modi said: “Inaugurated bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima. This bust in Hiroshima conveys a very important message. Gandhi’s ideals of peace and harmony resonated globally and endowed countless The power of a million people.”

He also attached a photo of him praying in front of a bust of Mahatma Gandhi.

Earlier in the day, the prime minister also held talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.

In a tweet, Modi said: “Had an excellent meeting with Prime Minister Kishida this morning. We had a comprehensive review of India-Japan relations and also discussed priority areas for India’s G20 presidency and Japan’s G7 presidency , aiming to make our planet a better place.”

On Friday, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Hiroshima, Japan for the Group of Seven summit, where he will also hold bilateral talks with various world leaders.

While traveling to Hiroshima, Japan, the prime minister said in a statement, “At the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, I will travel to Hiroshima, Japan to participate in the G7 summit meeting under which Japan holds the rotating presidency.”

He said it was a pleasure to meet with Prime Minister Kishida again after his recent visit to India for the India-Japan summit.

“My presence at this G7 summit is particularly meaningful as India assumes this year’s G20 presidency. I look forward to exchanging views with G7 countries and other invited partners on the challenges facing the world and the need to address them together. I will also Bilateral talks with some of the leaders attending the G7 summit in Hiroshima,” the prime minister said.

He will travel from Japan to Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.

Modi will also visit Australia at the invitation of Prime Minister Albanese and will
Interact with Australian CEOs and business leaders, and meet Sydney’s Indian community at special events.
