Karnataka may hike milk price by Rs 3 a liter
Milk Federation officials said the price increase was subject to cabinet approval and would come into effect on August 1

Bangalore: The Karnataka government may raise the retail price of milk by Rs 3 per liter, a Milk Federation official said on Friday.

The hike is subject to cabinet approval and will come into effect on Aug. 1, they said.

“In order to address the rising cost of milk production and to help producers, there is a proposal to increase the price of milk. The next cabinet meeting will take a decision on the implementation from August 1,” said Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He said there was a demand for an increase in the price of milk by Rs 5 per liter. “However, the cabinet will decide whether to raise the rate by Rs 5 or Rs 3. We expect a hike of Rs 3.” Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) chairman Bheema Naik led a delegation to attend the meeting.

Naik said farmers and unions are demanding an increase of Rs 5 per liter. “Once the Cabinet decides to increase the price by Rs 3 per liter, it will apply to all milk varieties in KMF. We will ensure that the increase of Rs 3 per liter benefits farmers.” Rs 54 for Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat.
