Trivandrum: Doctors at a private hospital on the outskirts of the capital managed to remove a battery after meticulous medical intervention, saving the life of a two-year-old boy.
Gastroenterologist Jayakumar from NIMS Hospital told IANS that they were able to endoscopically remove the battery from the stomach due to timely intervention.
“The child, Rishikesh, was brought here after his parents first took him to a local hospital near their home. As soon as we heard this, we informed the operating room and the child was given anesthesia After about 20 minutes, the battery was removed from his stomach. If it had been stored elsewhere, things would have been very difficult.
“The kid is full of energy now,” said Jayakumar, who was assisted by a team that included Nihar.
The five centimeters long and one and a half centimeters wide battery used in the TV remote control was swallowed by a child while playing.
