Speaking of Telangana todayAccording to Vangala Kondal Rao, president of the association, bicycle mechanics have no social security and no scheme to support them. Hence, the Khammam Two Wheeler Mechanics Association was formed to look after their welfare.
Association members donate Rs 100 to the common fund. In case of emergency, special donations will be made. There are approximately 5,000 bicycle mechanics in Khammam district. Municipalities and municipal associations work together. The association has come up with many plans.
For example, when any mechanic’s child gets admission in a professional course like medicine or engineering, the child is given Rs 10,000 as an honor and his parents are congratulated.
If a Grade 10 student achieves a GPA of 9 and above, the student will receive Rs 5,000. Kondal Rao informed that when the mechanic’s daughter gets married, a wedding gift of Rs 10,000 will be given and in case of a girl, a fixed deposit of Rs 11,116 will be placed in the child’s name.
Financial assistance of Rs. 20,000 will be provided in case of electrical short circuit in the machine shop. In the event of a traffic accident, members receive Rs 10,000 in compensation and they suffer broken limbs. People who undergo heart surgery will receive the same amount, he noted.
Kondal Rao revealed that when a mechanic dies, a member’s family will receive financial assistance of Rs 70,000. Of this, Rs 40,000 will be donated by city associations and the rest by municipal associations.
Not only that, a mechanic over the age of 60 will receive a bonus of Rs 30,000 in recognition of his wife and husband. “We do all this with the agreement of the association’s committee members,” said L Murali, the association’s general secretary.
Rs 1.5 lakh has been spent so far to support the members. Kondal Rao explained that Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar helped members secure Rs 20 lakh assistance under CMRF.
