Arundel (Sussex): Batting mainstay Virat Kohli joined the national team for a training session at the picturesque Arundel Castle Cricket Club on Monday alongside left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat, who appears to have recovered from a left shoulder injury.
India will play a one-off test against Australia at the Oval from June 7-11.
The BCCI shared photos of the team members including the pace duo of Kohli, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj on their official Twitter on Monday.
“Members of the Indian team start preparing for WTC23 at Arundel Castle Cricket Club,” the BCCI said in a tweet.
While Kohli, Umesh and Siraj were seen jogging in their new training gear, off-line player Ravichandran Ashwin could be seen rolling his arms over the net.
Unadkat also held discussions with head coach Rahul Dravid and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. Cheteshwar Pujara has been playing for Sussex on the English country tour in preparation for the final and has also been seen arriving at the training ground.
Umesh and Shardul Thakur were among the first Indian players to reach the WTC finals.
Skipper Rohit Sharma and young Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have also arrived, while the final batch of Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, KS Bharat and Ajinkya Rahane will leave on Tuesday after the IPL final in Ahmedabad .
Jaiswal was included in the team as a substitute after Ruturaj Gaikwad notified the BCCI that he was going to get married on June 3-4.
India are runners-up in 2021 after losing by eight wickets to Kane Williamson-led New Zealand at Southampton two years ago.
India will not be participating in any warm-up matches as the English County Championships are underway and, as this is an ICC event, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is under no obligation to arrange practice matches for the visiting teams.
