bed: Police have opened a case against the board of a Hyderabad-based company for allegedly selling counterfeit fertilizers to farmers in Majalgaon in Maharashtra’s Beed district, an official said on Saturday.
A man who worked as a supplier for the company in the state’s Wasim district was also booked, he said.
According to the police, the company did not have a license to sell the fertilizer.
“The quality control team of the Bid District Agriculture Department received information that Majalgaon was selling counterfeit fertilizers. Based on this report, the task force went to the company’s unit in the city to conduct a search.” The police officer said.
During the search, the team found 338 bags of fertilizer produced by the company worth Rs 4 lakh at the centre, he said.
“The fertilizer sample was sent to the testing laboratory in Aurangabad for analysis. The test report confirmed that the fertilizer was not certified,” he said.
A case was opened against representatives of Washim Corporation and its board of directors under the terms of the Essential Commodities Act and the Fertilizer (Control) Order following a complaint lodged by a district quality control inspector.
Majargao City Police Station.
The company has not yet received permission from the government to sell the fertilizer, according to officials. The indictment alleges that the company defrauded the government and farmers by selling counterfeit fertilizers without a license.
The Beed District Agricultural Officer-in-Charge revoked the license of the Majalgaon office of the fertilizer company after an inspection by the district-level quality control team.
